History of the Champions

This section of the website is dedicated to all of our successful (and not-so-successful!) teams & players in the Veterans League. Over the last 3 years, we've had quite a number of teams that have participated. Some were bygones, some are still powers to reckon with.

Today (Sep/2007), in our 3rd year of record-keeping, a few statistics force us to take notice. For instance:
(Note: The "[Month/Year]" in brackets indicate the date when the statistic was originally recorded.)

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
100% record, Champ! only 1 time they were ever formed and participated [Aug/2007]!
  • Most strongest team Cosmos
  • Never lost a game in all the tournaments they participated (4 in all as of [Dec/2006]), with only 2 draws (both against the LeCoq French in [Sep/2006] and [Oct/2006]).
  • But, fate would have it, as they bragged right after the [Dec/2006] tournament, they met their, not 1, but 2 defeats in the hands of Harrow Teachers and Shrewsbury Teachers in their 5th participation in [Feb/2007], yet they still won it!
  • Then, they returned to win the [Mar/2007] competition again resoundingly, with no goals conceded and only 1 draw (against Debsirin, their eventual opponents in the Grand Final).
  • Only to lose the long-held championship title to LesGaulois in [Apr/2007] in the Grand Final's penaly-shootout.
  • And, suffered their "first-ever" defeat in open play to Winking Frog in [Jul/2007] SFs.
  • But, returned to winning ways again in [Sep/2007].
  • Victors in the Final NIST Teachers, British Club, LesGaulois French, Anglo-Franco Alliance, British-Frog United Never lost in the Final — once they got there!. (Cosmos can't claim the honour any more [Apr/2007]).
  • Most honourable mention Winking Frog From 14 participations, 5 times 2nd place ([Mar/2006], [May/2006] [Jul/2006], [Jul/2007], [Sep2007]), plus 1 more with Sunny-Frog [Jun/2006], and a 3rd place in [Dec/2006], and Plate! (5th overall) trophy in [Jun/2007], and finally a co-Champ! with British Club in [Aug/2007].
  • Most improved team "LeCoq" French (until [Nov/2006])

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
"BU" Japan

After a slow start in [May/2006], they improved to 3rd, then placed 2nd twice, and even won it with British in [Aug/2006], and add to that a 3rd place finish in [Jun/2007].
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
After starting the Vets League with 6-in-a-row BadCup! performances, they are slowly moving up the ranks each month, capturing 5th place in [Nov/2006] and 9th place in [Dec/2006], and entering their "first-ever" Cup Division (but finishing last at 8th overall) in [Feb/2007], then climbing all the way up to the SF in [Jun/2007] and eventually finishing 4th, only to find themselves lift the BadCup! again in [Jul/2007] and [Aug/2007] and [Sep2007].
  • Most unpredictable team British Club (totally depending on their roster each month) Successes include winning the BadCup! 3 consecutive times early on during the beginning of the League in 2005 [Feb/2005] [Apr/2005] [Jun/2005], and winning the Champ! in [Dec/2005] of the same year, and again together with the LeCoq French in [Aug/2006], then again solely by themselves in [Nov/2006], and yet a 15th place near-BadCup! performance in [Dec/2006], and the Shield! (9th overall) trophy in [Feb/2007], and finally a Champ! in [Aug/2007] together with Winking Frog.
  • Pity in penalties British Club Lost 11 of their 15 penalty-shootouts [Aug/2007] (recently with an incredible 11-12 to Germans in [Oct/2006]). However, winning the [Nov/2006] Champ! on penalties maybe just a blip on the radar.
  • Luck or armtwisting Sunbelt   Won all 3 of their 3rd place rankings due to the other team conceding! [Dec/2005] [Mar/2006] [Oct/2006]
  • Firmly won the BadCup! on

Eric for a wild slide when he was playing for British Club in [Jun/2005], and Arai San from BU Japan for a blatantly deliberate handball [Aug/2006]
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
For the "first-ever" time in [Dec/2006], we saw 2 yellow-cards dished out in 1 game for ungentlemanly conduct, i.e., for a mild slide-tackle for (Winking) Frog, and for a deliberate handball for (LeCoq) Frog
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

A flurry of yellow-cards in the Grand Final between LesGaulois and Cosmos [Apr/2007]

From Anatolian Turks, for instastantly fouling the BU Japan forwards [Aug/2007]
  • Red-card rudes None whatsoever, after more than 2 full seasons..!!! (until [Jun/2007])
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
  • Daviid and Jean-Francois from LesGaulois
  • Ashley from Germans

. . . . . and, let's please keep it this way.!
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
In [Jun/2007], anger and vengence got the better of some players from LesGaulois and Germans in the same game, and we saw our first red-cards in the Vets League after two-and-a-half years existance.

Let's not allow this to happen again!
  • Most played venue Harrow School 19 times [Sep/2007]
  • Most loved venue Patana School Immaculate pitches (but hard to book there nowadays!)
  • Most beer guzzlers Winking Frog No contest.!

  • It's a crying shame, 'cause they won every single time they competed back in 2005.
  • and, on a fortunate reversal in their Management direction, they managed to bring a squad to the [Mar/2007] competition with the purpose of bidding farewell to some of their departing players, and snatched 3rd place (losing to eventual Champ! Cosmos in the SFs).

The following table is the record of the Top Scorers in the Vets League, which we started awarding beginning from Nov/2006. Top Scorer trophy is awarded every month based on scoring (in order of precedence):
    • HT: a triple (i.e., hat-trick) in any 1 game
    • D2: a double in any 2 games
    • S3: a single in 3 consecutive games
    • GM: a simple goal majority scoring more than anyone else on the day
                 =OR=
    • LTA: in clear absence of the above, given as a Life Time Achievement award to honour those with long
years of dedicated contribution and support of the footballing scene in Bangkok and around the
              region

Above criteria is listed in order of precedence. If multiple players achieve the same feat during the same month, then whoever achieves it first wins the Top Scorer trophy.
